Kick down linkage

I asked this question some months ago, and did not get a clear answer  
,,,,,,,,,  I have a manual shift reverse pattern trans with a low gear set  in 
it,,,,,,,,,,do I need kick down linkage installed on it?  or maybe just  a spring 
to keep the lever in place?
