I have experienced the same symptom on my daily driver, a ford capri 1977 v6. it was low voltage on the power source. The engine will turn, but the electronic ignition will not operate because it requires 12.5 volts to send a spark, therefore it starts when you stop using the starter. Ps. I am restoring my Sport fury, and have the choice between 2 different engines. LA 360 from 1974 or a military RB 361 from 1963 Which on should I chose? I will be using an A-833. And how do I send pictures to this forum and start a new string?
