I used a '68 GTX housing, with a '69 489 center section. Simple bolt in and the 11 inch brakes were a plus. However, I lost an inch of tire clearance. In retrospect, I'd have looked longer for a 66-67 rear, as it gains an inch of clearance. Should have done my homework a bit better. Check out the tech section of this site, it has all you need to know on this subject. Read the dimensions carefully. Mounting pad to pad may be the same, as well as brake back to back distance, but you can still have a wider rearend with difference in axel flange distance.
