If anyone has bought a Racer Brown B/RB cam recently,I want to offer some important advice.I bought an STX-20 around Christmas and eventually installed it about 4 weeks ago.The cam had core shift issues which placed the lobes too far to the rear of the block. In short,a lobe would hit the lifter next to it as the engine rotated.Also,1/3 of the lifter hung over the side of the nose of the lobe,so it wasn't a matter of just narrowing the lobe a bit. I caught this during assembly,so no damage was done.I sent Jim Dowell(Racer Brown) pics of everything, and he said he hasn't received any other complaints.Cams could be on customer shelves waiting to be used. If you do your own assembly please be aware of this issue as a matter of habit. Some guys check for these issues, some don't.I'd hate to see anybody's new motor get wiped out.If you have the work farmed out, please make your machinest aware of the potential problem. There has to be more than one bad core out there.
