Don't assume because they are the DMV they know what they're doing...I parked a car for a year back in the 70's and when I went to get new tags for it the woman at the DMV told me I had to buy the previous year's registration first. When I asked her how I could buy something that had already expired she had no answer, just that I would still have to buy it. Someone else finally straightened it out for me.
