Head milling

I've got a pair of 452 heads from a '78 440.  The intake surface of one 
of them is totally flush, while the other has a raised surface where it 
touches the intake manifold, like normal.  I've never seen a head smooth 
like this on the intake surface.  I'm sure they came off the same 
engine.  Did Chrysler ever do this?
