The first time I rebuilt an engine.  We took it apart and sent it out. as we 
got the block back we set up a clean area in the basement and then as all 
the other parts came back we put it back together. every thing worked fine 
except the basement did not have an outside entrance and we had to take it 
up the steps and thru the kitchen. lots of luck there.  took it apart and 
did it again in the garage. Learn well that time  dave O
