Re: 318 engine

Look for a marking on the left side, front of block, below cylinder head for
an engine ID. Best way to tell is to look at the casting number on the
sides of the block. It will also have a date code on the side of the block. It
would read have a month-day-year. An LA 318 will have a later '66 and up
date code. A Poly 318 will have a '66 or earlier date code...that is unless it
is a Canadian built poly which went through '67. Email me with the part
number on the side and I can check my reference book if you would like.
Although, I have a '65 Coronet that had a 273 from the factory. I was told by the
guy that I bought it from that someone had stolen the engine and trans out of
it while the owner before him was at work so they put an LA motor in it. He
thought that the car was a factory 318 car...it wasn't and the engine was the
factory. It is funny how people shoot you a line of bull when you are
purchasing a car thinking that you don't know any better anyway. Keep that in mind
too. Some people know what a later 318 looks like but do not even know a
273 exists.
Just some tips.
