I thought a dashpot was a solenoid that was activated by the ignition. 
When the car is running it has a plate the idle screw rests on to 
determine idle and when the ignition is shut off the solenoid pulls the 
plate back to kick the idle way down and reduce the gas to help prevent 
dieseling, etc.. I know these exist on many cars but maybe it's just an 
"idle kickdown solenoid" or???
