There is probably a big interchange on your 63 sending unit, thats something a parts store SHOULD be able to help with. There are probably a bunch of years that fit. They work by adjusting the amount of negative (ground from the engine in this case)voltage the sender sees. Its a pretty common way of working the gage. Doc. .
