The other thing you run into with 40 year old glass that's been down the 
road a bit is that it is full of tiny pits and scratches.  When you're 
driving into the sun it refracts the light so bad it's really hard to 
see.  The windshield in my 63 is particularly bad.  I don't think there 
is a cure for that kind of damage short of replacing it.
