A friend has mentioned the brief rotation, brief stop, then rotation & 
startup (all on one key twist in about 2 seconds) is typical of timing too advanced. 
 His explanation is that with advanced timimg, the initial rotation yields a 
charge ignition immediately, on a cylinder when the piston is being forced up 
by the rod, but that progress is halted by the charge igniting......has anyone 
had experience with this hyposthesis?

I appreciate all help, I don't have the "mechanical gene".

I'm very impressed with the good-hearted nature of this website, folks are 
always trying to help the best they can.
