Take it down to bare metal.  Period.  It is not a good idea to put one 
type of paint over another.  Note: that's type, not color.  Further, you 
don't know what's underneath that primer.  I just finished stripping my 
1964 Plymouth, and was shocked at some of the problems I found 
underneath all the paint.  For example, the car was damaged and had rust 
repair done, probably in the late sixties.  The repair work was so old, 
I thought it was the factory paint.  Plus, I found a lot of small dents 
that weren't pulled out, just bondoed.

If you want to know what a woman REALLY looks like, you must see her 
with ALL the make up off.
