If you are spending alot on the new paint job, I would go down to the 
metal. No sense going through all of the trouble and time and then have 
it peel or bubble...
just my 2 cents...
I had my whole car, top and bottom, plastic beaded for a couple hundred 
dollars. definitely worth more than my time and sweat!!
