I have had both and in the same chassis even.
first comparing a max wedge to a Street hemi maybe isnt the way to go about it. How about a max wedge to a Race hemi. Even then the hemi is giving up some compression.
I think a max wedge would have his work cut out for him against a good running race hemi (64 or 65 b body )however i would not hesitqate for a moment to try a street hemi on for size.
They are a great engine , dont get me wrong but they have only 10.5 to 1 comp and a cam around 480 lift while the MW came with 11.5 or 13.5 to 1 and 300 degrees duration at 520 lift. The carbs are even bigger on the stage 3 and there is the crossram working for it not to mentionthe superior exhaust system on the stock vehicles even.
I used to work on a real good running street hemi 68 charger for a local collctor. It would run mid 13s on street tiers letting the trans self shift and not too heavy a launch.
I am sure a little serious work would have netted some high 12s and that is i think about right.
maybe we need a challenge with two real good restored contenders.
Also hard to get a street hemi in a car wth reasonable wieght. many Hemi cudas are ocver 4000 pounds in street trim which was sort of unfair i think. Don
