It was the top of the line model with the Meadoebrook and Wayfarer the cheaper models. (In Canada Dodge continued to use the Custom name until 1951.) For 1953 the Coronet was shrunk to a 114" wheelbase for the 2-door hardtop, convertible and wagon and a 119" wheelbase for the club coupe and sedan. This was the first year for the 241-cid hemi V8. For 1954 the Royal series was added as the top of the line series. For 1955 the Custom Royal was added to the top, the Meadowbrook was dropped and the Coronet became the cheapest big Dodge, now on a 120" wheelbase. The Coronet was available with either the flathead six or V8. In 1957 the Dodge wheelbase was increased to 122" and the Coronet remained the lowest priced big Dodge, still with the flathead six or V8 engine. The last of the 122" wheelbase Coronets was the 1959 model. The Coronet name reappeaed in 1965 as Dodge's intermediate line using the B body in a 117" wheelbase with the wagons on a 116" wheelbase. A new body arrived in 1966 and all Coronet models, including the wagons, were on a 117' wheelbase. The Coronet received another new body for 1971, adopting the fuselage look. All 2-door coupe and hardtop models were removed from the Coronet line and added to the Charger. The two-door models were restyled for 1975 and the Coronet regained the 2-door coupe and Custom 2-door hardtop. The 2-door models again became Chargers for 1976 which was also the last Coronet built.
