What have I done! Once again I've forgotten some important people. Bill Parker came to my aid in Bloomington when I had to replace the radiator in the van, he drove me around when my son wasn't available so I could get things done, while I missed out on seeing the 'distinguished gentleman,' Nick Tiberio when I was passing through Connecticut as I only had his home phone number and he was out that evening. While I'm on the subject of that I should tell this great story. I had planned to make this trip five years ago and with that in mind I bought a 3-speed manual gearbpx on behalf of a man in Toowoomba, Queensland. He has a '61 Dodge 2-door and it must be the only manual 61 Dodge in Australia. Anyway I found an A903 for him in Rhode Island and that's where I was heading when I was in Nick's part of the world.I hadn't been in touch with John, the seller, in at least four years and I phoned him that night. His wife, Linda, answered and told me John was out at a meeting, and that she vaguely remembered something about this deal. John phoned me back and we made an arrangement that I get to their place at about 10am.And so I did. Linda came out when I arrived and ushered me inside. "I'm making pancakes for you," she said. It was a delightful interlude before John and I got on with the dirty business of fishing out an old 3-speed tranny and stuffing it into my van.Anyway, my apologies to Bill and Nick...Ray--On Monday 28 October 2024 at 05:45:26 UTC+10 Ray Bell wrote:Yes, it was a treat visiting you blokes, there's always scintillating conversation among car guys. Prior to visiting Don I had seen Joe in upstate New York, his '65 Fury was a lovely car while his project is a Dart with a 340 and 3-speed (A230). His wife was keen to give me a coffee which was to my liking and it was a shame I had to keep on moving.Mike Klemm was next, another with an A-body with 340, his fitted with a Tremec and producing abundant power (as he showed me in a trip around the block. I don't think he's ever been a member here but is on the Moparts forum and has helped me previously with a project.Jason Rhoades and his lovely wife, Jody, welcomed me yesterday and being shown around the gear (all kinds of stuff apart from his Mopars) he even helped me out with a pressure clean of my van!Wonderful, generous and hospitable people, Rich McMahon (he has a '65 Valiant in Detroit) I'd met during my 2014 trip and he did go to see Bill Wiswedel's collection of cars in Holland with me, I'm just so happy to be meeting and spending time with such great enthusiasts.RayOn Saturday 26 October 2024 at 22:04:45 UTC+10 Donald Gallimore wrote:He visited me the morning prior to seeing you. I enjoyed our chat. My experience with him was the same as Mike's. I wish I had been able to supply him some 8 3/4 axles but only had Dana 60 axles. So, if you get a call out of the blue from this Aussie, invite him in. And, please, someone find him some 8 3/4 axles.Akron DonI had the pleasure of meeting Ray at my home Thursday afternoon! Hecontacted me Wednesday from Detroit and we spoke about visiting a carcollection in Holland,MI on Friday. I had prior plans so, he said hewould call me Thursday afternoon. Well, he called and told me hecouldn't locate my house number so, I realized he was in myneighborhood. His GPS had him 20 miles away (not a new development) so Iredirected him to my home. In no time he appeared! We had a nice visit-looking at my 65's, shop tour, and fed him suppertoo. He was quite entertaining and very knowledgeable of our hobby.Overall, a nice experience for my wife and me!Thanks Ray!Mike LeFevre------Please address private email -- email of interest to only one person -- directly to that person.
