You can get at the pins without taking anything else apart.  Just look inside the quarter trim panel.   Easily accessible.  Don't try to do it without the pins removed.  Once the cylinders are disconnected, you are just dealing with hinges and pivot pins.  Won't hurt anything and it's not that hard to do.  I've had to do it more than once in the 47 years I've owned my 63.
