Re: Fw: 63 Dart Fuel System refurb Update & 'Glitch' / ?

Hi Sherman,

Which carb are you using? Some times the Carter float will bind on the sides of the float bowl. The Holleys never seem to bother. The big issue with my 318 Poly is the evaporation of the corn juice they make us buy. I had to install a Carter rotary electric with a momentary switch to save my starter from excess cranking. Works great.

I am posting this for Sherman as the email got misdirected.

Thanks for the update Sherman! Hopefully some member will have a suggestion about preventing a sticking
needle valve on your Dart.

Hi All: I shared last summer that I had diagnosed the hard starting &
stalling on my 63 Dart GT convert to 'restricted fuel flow' from the
tank, & therefore planned to replace the pickup gauge sender unit
'over the winter' after our return from our annual Snowbird Florida
  escape.
I found the best price for a new pickup was on Amazon @ $37. Up from
$28 a few years ago when I replaced unit on my 61Lancer Wagon, & now
  $41.
Kit does include new gasket & Sealing ring, but still needed schmear
  of RTV to fully seal.
However, even with the new pickup, the engine failed to run unless
starter fluid or fuel manually entered into the carb.
Having replaced the fuel pump last Spring, I hooked up an electric
pump & immediately got fuel to the carb. So I figured the problem
AGAIN was a stuck Needle valve (also new last August 22).
The fuel was fresh a year ago. So the engine now fires right up & I am about to take the car for 'A
Joyous Ride' over to my hanger at the airport, have the Dart revisit
  the Commander.
So the ongoing 'Glitch' seems to be with the Ethanol fuel. So my question is has anyone else experienced this issue ( sticking
needle valve), and is there an additive that someone has found to help
  reduce or eliminate this issue?
Ironically, my 36 Packard 120B 2dr Touring (1 of 5 remaining of 4000 -
  2 dr models built of 70,000 '35-'36 Model 120s.) Straight 8 Carter
2brrl carb - Can sit for 6months and NEVER has this problem. Always
  instant fireup & runs immediately.
Will share an interesting Tech note on the Ignition system in another
  post.
