Doesn't brewers sell that part but it's got a roller bearing instead of the bushing.

Obviously it becomes a case of those who don't really know the subject passing on wrong information all the time. Hearing about 360 engines requiring a flywheel with holes drilled in one side for balance can lead to a belief that it's the same with all engines being fitted with manual transmissions.
On the subject of the bearings which fit into that shallower recess in the back of the crank, I've been forced to look towards that by the shortness of the input spigot on the NV4500 5-speed I'm fitting to the 360 in my B350. I have made up a spacer block (see pics) into which the original size of bronze bush is fitted, but I've got a longer bush so that it goes through into the standard recess.
In the pic you'll see three threaded holes in the spacer which are there for the purpose of screwing small bolts into if I need to remove it.

Some original automatic equipped engines had deep enough recesses

Years ago NAPA offered a smaller OD bushing to fit those under
size bores. Any more, I don't know but, it could be done on a
metal lathe easy enough.

Yes some cast cranks never had the recess, Mine
is ok. In fact when I had the motor (340/steel crank) done I
had the guy install a pilot bushing , just in case I wanted to
do this down the road.

I heard stories of late 70s small block
cranks not being machined for input shafts. I never seen
it myself it maybe folklore.

the motor in question is an internal
balance steel crank 340

No. But my situation, I have a hp
440 magnum and that had the heavy rods and a
offset weight on the balancer so it needed a
weighted flywheel. I believe the regular 440s were
not like that, they were weighted enough on the
inside. But with any engine they sell flywheels
with different oz weights some bolt on some fixed.

If one went from an automatic to a
manual tranny, would you need to have your motor
rebalanced?
