Our Dart GT convertible with 100k miles, has been in the family since new.

 Originally used daily - mostly in Connecticut and New York.  A few years ago, we sent it out to the San Francisco bay area, where our daughter lives, and where it is now very rarely driven, but where the weather is much healthier for the car. 

In the past, as a reasonably handy dad, I maintained the car – brake and starter replacements, tuneups, etc.  But there is one problem that I haven’t been able to fix. The leaking transmission cable.  A few years ago, I tried spraying the cable with a rubber coating, which worked for a few days.  Browsing the web to see if a replacement cable is available, I came across this wonderful group, and hope to learn and participate. 

Reading the posts, it seems that it may be possible to get a replacement cable, but according to several posters, installing it is not the straightforward job the shop manual describes!  

I’m visiting my daughter for a short time, and even if I had my tools, an available lift and a replacement cable – which I don’t, it sounds like a job I would not be able to handle.

Thinking about the cable, I think there might be rubber-like self-adhesive oil-resistant tapes that can be stretched and spiral wrapped around the cable and end fitting, with perhaps sections of slit rubber hose, which could be clamped at the ferrule, and the end of the tape for an oil-tight seal without removing the cable.  Is anyone aware of such a product?

 In any event, I would like to find someone, hopefully in the SF Bay Area who can handle this, and other repair/restoration work on this beautiful car.

Your suggestions would be appreciated.
