The Mp cams arent "Bad" cams. The problem is that they are based on 30
year old designs, that have never changed. Now dont get me wrong, there
is a certain good side to "old school" tech. Its just that the MP cams
were built for "general" performance use. After all, they came from the
car manfacturer, not a cam builder. Meaning they had to fit a wide
variety of cars and applications. Look at the MP catalogs themselves,
one cam fits many different applications, from bracket racers, to trucks
to street rods. I dont think they have added many cams to their catalog
as of late.

Part of all the cam confusion today, is that many grinders are touting
"REAL MOPAR CAMS". ones that utilize the .904 lifer bore. What no one
figured it out untill the last few years that mopar can run a faster
lift rate cam than a SBC? Come on, you dont really believe that do you?
Its all a sales pitch nowadays.

Companies like Comp Cams, Lunati, Hughes, Ultradyne, and Racer Brown,
are specialists. They dont sell slant 6 Valiants for a living. They are
in the business, first off, to make a profit, and to make that profit,
they specialize in engines/components. Some all makes, others mopar
specific. Call these guys and say you want to buy a cam, and you better
have your cars specs on hand, and what you plan to do with it. Cam MP
and say you want a cam, and they will essentially say "Which one?" (yes
I am being overly simplistic here, you can get cam help from MP but not
like you can from a cam grinder, and you will certainly get a cam
recommendation from something off the shelf)

If you are looking for a good cam for your often driven street engine,
then a MP cam isnt a bad choice. I have never had a break in problem
with one, and never been unhappy. Then again, I wasnt looking for the
most performance I could get.

If you want more, you need to look away from MP and look towards
companies that specialize in this area.

Currently for my engine, I bought an older Erson grind. It was new in
the box and cheap to boot. If I break out of the 14's with it, I'd be
estatic. When I build the 460 stroker, the cam will be a Racer Brown.

Doc.

expelled, arrested, possibly deported. To put it another way, dont try
this at home.
