While the std non-OD transmissions do not operate in this manner, they run the trans in direct drive, meaning the countershaft is alond for the ride. Thats one of the reasons that Chrysler when with the 308 bearing, as the roller bearings between the shafts do more work, (remember engine RPM in and a higher rpm out) Its critical to keep the bearings and roler surfaces in good shape( ie during a rebuild ). This cant be stated more if you are NOT using the 308 bearing as its larger for a reason. the smaller bearing may not be able to take the loads applied to it when its in 3rd (od). Aside from that, I am not sure that the OD internals will fit the non0od case due to the bearing sizes. (should, but I have never done it.)
