Unless you insist on brand new drums, you should be able to pickup
some good used drums (10x2.5") at a swap meet (or here in Athens 
GA) for a fraction of this cost.  

The best route to go is the unicast disc setup that several people
have mentioned (73-76 A-body,, see www.moparaction.com, look under
"Tech" and then under "Discotech"...)  You can spend $1000 and
get it all drop shipped to your door.  You can also do it for
$200-400 if you are willing to dig a little...

$200 budget?:  junkyard 73-76 A-body spindles (or F-body ...) are
$10-25 a piece...  go to a u-pull-it or ditch the city yards and
drive out to the yards in the sticks...  bearings,  calipers, 
rotors, master cylinder, and hoses will run about $160 @ Autozone.

I found some excellent used rotors with good bearings and saved 
$100+...
