Brian- I'm running a 160 in mine. It didn't seem to run quite as well with the 180. The manifold needs to be warm enough so the fuel doesn't condense out in the runners but 160 is hot enough to do that. There were some studies that proved running less than 140 or so is harmful to an engine. The cooler it runs the longer it takes to boil condensate out of the oil I suspect. I had an air bubble in the cooling system one time and the car boiled over because it didn't fill the water jackets. I punched a 1/8" bleed hole in the base of my thermostat and it hasn't happened since.

Here's a question for Max Wedge owners. The owner's manual said the
engine won't run well until it heats up, and that is a correct
statement. Currently I'm running a 160 degree thermostat and I only use
the engine for crusing. Obviously, I don't have to worry about over
heating, but I'm questioning whether the engine might vaporize the fuel
more efficently and run better if I switched to a 180 degree unit. What
have some of you other Max Wedge owners experienced? Brian
