The only good news here would be, you wont have to replace the axle
housing.

 NO, the 741 is the chuck, just like the 742, or the 489. This has
nothing to do with the housing.

 Only if you are relocating the springs inboard. The backspacing of the
rims you use, will make the same big rubber fit, any rear end width.

 Be it 741, 742, 489,  Break one first, then find the next size bigger to
replace it with.
