One of the things was on the older engine,s the seats already had a build up   of lead from years of running leaded gas, so the have a cushion.   I have only seen on head and it was a 6 cyc chev that had the seat hammered.  They were drove way up in the head.  Could have be a bad ajustment. .

  I had a '63 Valiant with a 170 /6.  No idea how meny miles it had,
  since the odometer was broke when I bought it.  About 8 years ago, I
  had to get a valve job done on it, so it lasted at least 33 years,
  most of them on unleaded.  A leakdown test showed that exhaust
  valves weren't sealing properly.  After new valves, guides and
  seats, the motor was back to normal, at least until I sold it to my
  brother.
