hiya ,    
  when the dots are together crank 12;00 oclock  and cam at 6:00 oclock other 
words close together , is not when heels of cam lobes are smooth . that is 
not where both valves are closed on number one piston.  if that is where you 
matched your timing sprockets you must rotate crank one rev to timing marks to 
set your rotor on number one terminal of distributer. 
   the best way for you to see is remove your valve cover and watch rocker 
arm on intake valve as you turn crank with a wrench .  when you see  number one 
rocker push down intake valve continue tuning crank to timing marks , you will 
be tdc on number one piston with marks alligned. you can now install rotor 
pointing to terminal you will have wire going to for number one .
