Yes the 2765 will fit and no i dont have the wrong part number. A 2797 will fit but it has significantly more cooling capacity than the 2765 as it locks up more. I have two installed now.

You have the wrong part number 2765 Hayden is the number you want .This one will fit!!

Go with a 2797- should fit and its a severe duty thermal. They market this as the " cooler for your hot rod" and it's just like the infamous mid 80s jaguar clutch but less internal slippage.

So, I bought a Hayden 2747 and went to install it but it’s 1/2” too long and would jam against the radiator core so it won’t work on our non A/C 300K. I knew it was a tight fit with the current unit (the clearance is so tight I couldn’t even
squeeze my finger in between the current clutch and the radiator core to see if there was a thermo spring).
I was hoping that the new unit would work there. Alas, it doesn’t. That said, I will say it’s a beautiful unit and certainly looks superior to the old thermo unit that’s currently on the car (to Carl’s point) and am hoping that someone can recommend
an alternative Hayden unit that will squeeze in there .
Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

John is correct re. the non-A/C cars, and on top of that many came with the 4 blade fan instead of the 7 blade fan. The 7 blade fan moves a LOT more air. On my '62 non-A/C 300 with no shroud, I upgraded the 4 blade fan with no fan clutch to a 7 blade
fan and used a HD thermal fan clutch (Hayden 2747). The HD clutch has much higher spin resistance than the standard duty clutch and begins engaging at a lower temperature (air temperature in front of the clutch, not coolant temperature in the radiator).
Even without a shroud, coolant temp stays very consistent and no need to change the radiator and thermostat housing. But adding a shroud is even better. The letter cars used a non-thermal fan clutch into the '63 model year with a running change to thermal.
A thermal clutch is superior to the non-thermal.

I never had a J or K, but from my experience with 60-62 vehicles, the non-A/C cars didn't have fan shrouds, and the A/C cars had fan shrouds that were designed to accommodate the radiator hose on the far passenger side of the top
tank. A/C cars also had viscous fans while non-A/C cars did not. The exception was high performance letter cars without A/C that had the A/C style viscous fans, but no shroud. I guess that was because the letter cars were expected to be running at higher
rpm, with or without A/C, so it was felt the viscous fan was needed either way. When I moved to TX, I began investigating adding a shroud to my non-A/C G. I bought a shroud at Carlisle and slightly modified it where necessary to clear the upper hose, and
it bolted on just as it would on an A/C radiator. Probably the "right" way to do it would be to get an A/C radiator and fan shroud, and change the thermostat housing and upper hose to look like an A/C car that is missing the compressor for the best form
and function. I had once parted out a 62 New Yorker with A/C, and had hung on to the radiator and shroud for years without using it (my G coupe I had at the time was factory A/C, so already had the correct radiator and fan shroud). I finally sold the A/C
radiator and shroud at Carlisle years ago, before selling my G coupe and getting a non-A/C convertible G and moving to Texas. Go figure!
