Where it all began for me!
This is almost the exact car I bought for my eventual wife in 1982 when she came to MA to spend the summer with me before we got married in 83.
I bought the car for $300, thinking it would only be for the summer she was spending with me. We fell in love with each other and 'Bubbles' (named after the dashboard).
I had no idea what a 300 was, and I don't think the owner did, either, and just got the asking price by looking at the number on the trunk.
The one I bought even had the same York compressor and add-on underdash unit. Our car did not have a power seat or cruise, but everything else was the same.
It was a year or so later that I found out the 61 model year still had fins, so I started looking for a 61 300, and all I could find were cars that had a G suffix and cost more than I could afford at the time, so I wound up with a super low mileage Newport instead. Eventually saved up for a G coupe (17087), even had a 61 NYer 8 door airport limo before finally getting a G convertible.
Talk about a blast from the past!
My wife used 'Bubbles' until 1988, when we started a family and upgraded to a loaded 62 New Yorker station wagon (Rosie, because of the Rosewood interior/exterior color), which she used up into the early 2000's before she eventually shifted over to using her winter beater PT Cruiser all the time, so we sold Rosie, but we've seen her a number of times over the years, still roaming the roads in New England.
