According to our legislature... collector cars were only allowed in parades and other similar activities. We sent back that none woukd be renewing the plates and no tax structure. Being it already is allowed to have non licensed vehicles in parades. No longer proceeding with that bit of legislature. Unfortunate we lost one of our best legislators protecting the hobby. DUI conviction. Ouch. Rick

The question is whether that historical/collector status avoids inspections and compliance with emission standards.  Here in New Jersey we used to have a terrible time leaning out the ram cars to comply with the emission standards, until the state finally decided to exempt all cars more than 25 years old from inspection.  The argumaent was made that there were not enough of them to really make a substantial difference, plus the fact that most collector cars were better maintained than was the average driver..  That was one of the very few things the government of New Jersey has ever done correctly.

In California we have historical vehicle and horseless carriage plates that limit your driving, which is similar to what this proposal is. It's not like you have to have them on your car and I don't think I saw anything in the Minnesota law requiring every old car to have them.
