{Chrysler 300} Valley pan front plate on my 64K

Hey, I'm curious as to what the benefit is for the small metal plate mounted at the front of the valley pan?

 

Is this to secure the heat / sound aluminum pillows under the manifold?

 

Or is there to deflect the air up to to bottom of the manifold?
