Diamondback will put a whitewall of any width & color you like on any blackwall tire you send to them or that they have. Yes, its expensive, but you get 7 to 10 years out of them.

I am slightly confused as to this thread - the correct OE size for the 300L is either 8.55-14 (standard) or 9.00-14 (optional) with narrow approx 1 inch whitewall. These are unavailable except in expensive Specialty sizes - frequently made in small batches using old technology manufacturing processes.

The replacement size evolution for the 8.55-14 is H78-14 to 225/75R14 (also only available in Specialty sizes = Coker or Diamondback at around $300+ ea). The 225/75R14 are roughly 27.5 in OD compared to the original 8.55-14 at 28.25 in OD, so a 235/75R14 at 27.9 in OD would be a slightly better match (also $pecialty only).

The largest remaining non-Specialty 14 in tires are the 215/75R14 (Hankook as previously mentioned - I beileve still available in Narrow White or Blackwall) (Stay away from any ST prefixed tire size as they are Trailer tires rated for lower speeds only) or 225/70R14 (Multiple brands but mostly white letters). Both the 215/75R14 and the equivalent 70 series 225/70R14 are smaller OD 26.7 in OD and 26.3 OD respectively compared to 8.55-14 OE at 28.25 in OD.

The better geometric alternate is the 225/75R15 at 28.3 in OD, but you would need to figure what to do about wheel covers or go to 15 inch Magnum 500 wheels (used on 67-69 Chrysler products) or the 15x6 Optional Road wheels used on 71-79 C bodies or other mag style aftermarket wheels.

Diamondbacks are better than Coker btw. Less prone to failures and a little cheaper ( not much at all) and especially if you like the correct width whitewalls over the Hankooks 3/4" standard one.

You'll see the stock size 8.55-14 crosses over to a 225/75R-14.

The issue is that size tire is only readily available through some of the specialty tire sellers like Coker Tire and they dig very deep into your wallet for their tires. Some have great luck with these specialty tires and some don't.

If you go one size smaller, to a 215/75R-14, you can easily get a tire at a local tire shop, but finding a tire that size in a whitewall (like the original) is harder. A blackwall Hankook tire can be found for under $100.. Go to a 215/70R-15 and you can find some white letter tires if that's your thing, but the tire will be about 3/4" smaller in diameter.
