RE: {Chrysler 300} Spark Plug Removal

On the early production 1964 300K without ram induction there was no hole to get to the steering box bolt. A service notice told the dealers to cut it and showed the location…

I had to do that on mine. I cringed as I did it!

Not suggesting it, but this thread reminded me of a Pontiac GTO Judge that I saw 50 some years ago at Fort Hood, TX.  The owner had used a hole saw and made some holes in the fender wells so he could change difficult plugs easily, maybe at the track. I guess necessity is the mother of invention.

Hi Albert

All good answers.

I did my first spark plug change a few years ago with the rams on. Next to impossible to get a socket on back plugs when trying to change plugs without going thru the access panel. So jacked up the car. Jack stands in place. Wheels off. Access panels off. Still tight to get socket on plugs but better then trying from engine compartment.

Plugs in and wires back on. Then access panels and wheels back on. About 1.5 to 2 hours.

I think the low man on the totem pole got this job way back then.

Good luck

Jacking up on the floor, I always used the wheel and tire I took off under the frame as a safety.

The wheel has to go somewhere, under the frame, near the firewall is a good place.

Hi Al,
You don’t have to remove your front tires, but it’s certainly easier access if you do. I’ve changed my plugs and wires a few times on my F.
Will your F be on a hoist, or are you just jacking it up on your garage floor? If you’re jacking it up with a floor or scissors jack, make sure you also use jack stands as insurance.
We don’t recommend using your old factory bumper jack, as that’s likely to bend your 65-yr old bumper brackets and or front bumper.
