I spoke to George around 20 years ago about my findings. Sent him photos of all the pumps, his book was already in print many years ago.

The notch pump is 3 1/2 “ diameter, The OEM is 3” and does not have a notch.

Think about it, why would Chrys. make a fuel pump that required a second op to cut a notch, NOT. I repeat, any pump w/ notch will not have Carter logo cast on side of body. Clean off the side of your hemi pumps and get your mirror out to look for the Carter logo.

BTW, Carter pumps had a patented double action that madfe them high flow capacity.

Also, those OEM pumps where used on small block, big block Chry, Imperial and all Chrysler products for the same years.

My memories from 30 years ago from George Riehl, were that the original fuel pumps for the 300 hemi engines, had a larger diameter for a greater flow capacity. I can’t give you the dimension but they had a notch in the diameter, so they would clear the corner of the hemi block. In the old days, George would deduct points at concours if you did not have a notched pump.
