Permit me to comment about Rita Conners and her 300E in Those Were The Days. 
I was  working an assignment in Washington DC in 1984. I was just getting into 300Es at the time…as I had 3 already. 
Since I was in the area, I decided to give Rita a call…since she was an original E owner. We wound up meeting and having dinner together. 
During the course of our conversations, if memory serves me correctly, she gave me the lowdown on how she came to the E. 
When she graduated college/received her military commission, her father bought her a new 1956 DeSoto. I cannot recall if she said it was a convertible or not. Well in any case she was at a dealer getting the DeSoto serviced. She wandered into the showroom…..and there it was….a brand new 1957 Chrysler 300C convertible….black of course. She wound up trading the DeSoto for it. 
Fast forward 2 years while having the 300C serviced at a dealership, she said a salesman approached her and said he had something to show her. He led her to another part of the dealership where he showed her that brand new 1959 300E they just got in. Just like before….she traded the C for the E. 
She kept that car until the day she died. It was her only car, so it was a daily driver. She told me she cannot count the number of times people left notes on the windshield or came up to her asking to buy the big black E
Hope she is resting peacefully. She was really a pioneer in the Letter Car world.
