This is an interesting conversation. I am 39 so probably a
younger member of the club. My uncles and grandfather are car
guys. Both uncles have now passed away. When my first uncle passed
away I bought everything in his collection and then had to narrow
it down a bit but that's what it took to get a hold of it. My
other uncle ended up moving everything he had to my garage in the
last 6 months of his life. It was a difficult process to go
through but I am immeasurably lucky to have been close to both of
them and enjoyed the hobby with them when they were able. My
grandfather is still here and old cars are the biggest topic at
every get together. He turned 90 this October and still drives a
48 Desoto with no power steering or brakes to my house regularly.
Again I am very lucky. I have often thought of adding onto my
garage, and offering a storage, and service business for old cars.
It would get a little interesting with insurance but my idea was
that I would exercise the cars for the customer on a set interval
say once a month in the months that it is possible in the north
east, keep them in running condition for the customers to enjoy
when they are able. And possibly assisting families in the
aftermath for finding good homes for the cars, or at least going
through that process the way the customer desired. Essentially
doing what I did for my uncles. It would be an enjoyable job but
one fear I have is it would take me away from my uncles
collections and maintaining them. Even at 39 I am already greatly
concerned with where the cars I have here go after me. Some have
been in my family since the 40s and you only get that history one
time, once it leaves its never the same. My grandfather and I
often talk about all the 30s and 40s cars that would be at Hershey
when I was a kid. Where did they all go? You almost never see a
car older than the 60s at a local car show anymore. When I was a
kid at Hershey these cars where the majority. It really makes you
wonder where they all are now. You don't even see many for sale. I
also notice every year the flea markets are shrinking. It makes me
wonder what will be going 20 years from now. I have thought I
would like to volunteer more for the clubs I am in but at this
point in my life I barely have time to attend the meets let alone
volunteer. Hopefully that will get better in years to come. Having
a 1 year old definitely makes things extra challenging. Anyway
just a subject that hit home with me reading this messages.
I concur, Danny!

--That poor car needs a rescue from the auction and dealer circuit where a car like that quickly becomes unhappy. Fouled plugs from rich cold starts and no warm up or high speed operation. Oil thin, dirty, full of gas and water. Auction handlers who are impatient and unmerciful with old cars that are obstinately uncooperative when treated poorly add insult to injury.
This is what happens to our beautiful cars if we are not careful to get them in good hands before we can't keep them anymore. Let's not let this happen to our cars.

It sold for $64,900 at RM Hershey in October and was bid to $56,000 on BaT last week. The market never lies!
