Those alternators have the shank in the lower bolt holes.
Both my ’62’s have them.
You can tap it rearwards to get it further from the fan belt.
It uses a long shoulder bolt (with nut) to run through the base of the Alternator Mount & the Alternator “ears” that straddle the mount.
I never really understood what the shank insert was for, but all of my cars (with A/C) have that piece.
