Google the performance characteristics of “Fluid Film”. 
It was reputedly developed for the defense department in World War II to protect ferrous surfaces.  
Many industries use this in a rattle can version for various protection and lubrication purposes.
The magic trick of this material is that it does not evaporate because it does not contain VOCs. It is actually lanolin which is a byproduct of wool processing.
One caution: do not use it as an aftershave lotion. It does have a bit of wet dog smell to it.
