I have some NOS back plates somewhere and could never make sense out of the part numbers, 7 digit CDCP numbers too but could not find any super- seedence info on them. Nice shiny black paint. I'll have to dig them out when I get time and check to see if they are 1 or 3 platform.
hi similar / related to this , and I think ( well , know!) that coincident to this they changed to later ball joints and upper control arm bushing size set up ( and thus control arms) to what I called “60 up design “
A little controversy started on this about “when” — as I for sure had a D with the later much better set up same as 60 ; if you look at a Moog catalog for 58 , (not later ones) there was a discussion about 58 ball joints , two
part numbers , add in oversize fits you have 4 part numbers for one ball joint . why often you get wrong front end parts for 58 D mopar .
In either dirrction .
often you will get wrong wheel cylinders as the backing plates etc changed in thickness too , much stronger . Also I had a 59 desoto long wb parts car with the good stuff
A classic case of mopar parts catalogs and numbers that are incorrect too .
I believed ,and still do , two untouched cars in front if me , more than quoting a catalog.
Or , perhaps end 58 D got the good stuff before complete switchover ?
Thank you Dave … right on !
