Re: {Chrysler 300} Manual G in MD on eBay

T 10  had glass input shaft  gears   i was there . It is a SBC trans developed for 57 62 vette   A toy gearbox
Mopar said no way , but instead finally gave us   a stong  3 speed in 61— but you could not shift  it , due to crap  pin syncronizers  . they break off and fall into gears = boom .
T10 in vette you could shift by animal
pull without stepping on clutch , 270 hp 283  I had a friend always did that 7500
rpm . belts  turned over on pulleys . He broke  shift lever right off one night

I built a 55 healey BN2 with 327 300 hp
T 10 6” driveshaft .About 1965 ( what cobra?)  Fastest thing i ever built . Lost license for a year was outcome .

Time to calm down … Thing  did wheelstsnds  like a bike . ( = loss of ccontrol )

pre 61 mopar trans has same pin problem (!junk) plus glass gears everywhere — designed for flathead six  . I personally blew about 16 of them .58-61    D500 57 dodge 325 later with 392 .

The cure ? Packard , huge gears, 1.5” wide  , 3” l brass cone  syncros , talk about a shift ! not even a click
no matter how fast you pulled lever .
Later on , in 300 club I found out Chick
Kramer , legendary 300 crazy had done same thing in 57 fury , he had  time slips in low 12’s ., a second faster than any GM. Great days! 1 second is car lengths!

T 85 good ( Ford ) and Cad / Lasall too .

I had a  3500 lb B and B oil truck clutch on that
392 , dodge truck flywheel with velvetouch metallic disc . No  hub springs . Still never blew packard trans (once i learned how to build them )
15$ each for Packard stick trans  in late 50’s! Buy 4 at a time .
OD too , 3:70 gears . loved that car , — red and black D500 stick convert … torn roof , no $ , no back window , top well was
used for ice and beer . 3.99
a case Dawson , I remember it full
of snow , ice and beer   Snow cover for cops .
Front end would come way up off line , i’d shout at pontiac 421 and 409
chev “ you guys gonna  bog or burn this time l? “ they usually did !
Mopar rear  suspension was really good off line  , front half of leaf almost solid and short .
Away we go, drop clutch
no wheel hop !
Killed a 421 4 speed one night , new 61 ventura coupe . best night of my life , Hemi walks away about 80

Re: mopar trans , pre 61 , in first gear not even touching clutch at all , you floor 392 in first it peeled all the teeth of first . Don’t need to worry about shift ! No wonder no stick 392 ever except top end Daytona cars

You guys  with 61 - 63 stick, even
max wedge
don’t shift real hard . You walk home …
62 727 changed all
this  , generally faster than any stick
American Graffiti has nothing on Big Burger ranch / Boston
/ Cambridge  1960 !!!!

You could add 421 (SD and HO) Pontiacs to that list of “T-10 eaters”

Danny: A T-10 will "wilt" under the torque from a cross ram 413. It had the same problems with the Ford 427 and Chevrolet 409. That is why the big 3 all developed their own 4-speed gearboxes.

I had a factory 3 speed 1970 Road Runner. The transmission was very crude. I sold it when I got my 300F and gave the buyer a 4 speed to put in it. They sold very few of them, it was just a trick to keep the base price down.

I do know that people back in the 1950s and 1960s would only tow trailers with stick shift cars.

Very good question given the new 3 speed was under development while they were shoe-horning in the Pont-du-croissant and the excuse given for its use. Why not the T-10 then?

My hunch is the A745 was built for use behind V8 engines, likely in trucks where 1st gear synchro is not necessary.

Why would Chrysler make
A transmission without
Synchro 1st gear?
John Hertog had a 61
Newport with this  trans
I drove it once not fun.

Depends on who you ask. It was a non-synchro first gear box. I’d rather have the A466.
