Lots of other old car owners have done this, for myself I prefer ancient incandescent lamps and thermal flasher units. However, you can find LED equivalent of 1157 and other common bulbs on line or at swap meets. The thermal flasher intended for incandescent lamps will not operate an LED lamp in that the thermal flasher relies on the current drawn by the incandescent lamp to heat up the bimetallic strip and begin flashing. You will need an electronic flasher also sold as a “heavy duty” flasher which opens and closes the contacts with a magnetic coil that cares less about current through the lamp. Auto Parts stores have them. I’ve not done this and will not do this. But others have and seem to like it.
