Re: {Chrysler 300} CVT top goes down not up

I agree with Ron’s instructions. I have 7 chrysler convertibles that use this basic system and it is well designed, engineered and basic - perhaps the best convertible top mechanism made by anybody - at anytime.

I have replaced about 1/2 of the systems. As long as hydraulic lines are filled and properly bled it should work perfectly.

If the top motor sounds as though it is straining (it’s ez to hear) it’s either insufficient juice or it could be time for a new pump. If it worked properly lowering but won’t return it is more than likely not enough juice in the system/needs to be bled.

All of the replacement pieces for this system are incredibly easy to source at “hydro-e-lectric” hydroe.com. They have everything you could ever need at reasonable prices - and the turnaround is very quick.

They can also help troubleshoot it for you. It’s a simple system you can troubleshoot yourself.

It’s a sealed hydraulic system. One side is responsible for the lift; the other side is for lowering the top. The ‘lift’ side has filled with air, due to a breach somewhere in the system. Possibly at one of the connections. Beware that you may have a puddle of hydraulic fluid to clean up. Check by the pump. Also check below the pistons used to raise and lower the pump. Tighten those brass connections. Clean up the mess and refill the pump. Then bleed the system.

I will start by admitting I am not the most mechanically inclined. However I purchased my 61 300g a few years ago and there was some leak issues in the hydraulic lines for the top. I had my local mechanic take it apart look at it we ended up replacing both of the compressors or lifter pumps, and filled and bled all the lines. Everything seemed to be good for a year. Last year when I went to put the car away the top would not come up it took a couple people manually to lift it and close it for the year. I backed the car out of the garage this spring and it went down perfectly fine I tried to bring it back up with no luck. So I'm wondering if people have thoughts on how I can direct my mechanic on this type of an issue. Power Top goes down fine, but does not come up.
