Dave –
When faced with cleaning a set of very crusty 57 Chrysler gauges, after removing the lenses I used warm water and dish washing liquid. Use a paper towel for some mild agitation. Don’t scrub too hard. It will all come off.

Subject: {Chrysler 300} Cleaning 57-59 dash cluster lens
Anyone have a clue how to remove the dried up, petrified and crusty gasket remains on these lenses without scratching or destroying the finish on the lens proper?
Thanks!
