My own experience is that I could not find any number stamped into the right rear frame rail on the 55 C300 when I had the body off, but there was a fair amount of surface rust/scale on that car. On the other hand, when I had the body off of my 57 300C, it was a very clean frame (southwest car), and it was clearly visible on the frame in front of the right rear wheel.
