Thanks Don, yes that was important to know. Lou, my instructor for this process, made sure we didn’t pull it out too far. I took a few pictures of Lou . And yes the trans needs to be supported and the rear support removed.

That's an easy one to miss. It drips out of there and spreads along the pan gasket. When changing these you may have to loosen the band adjustment to take tension off the pin. Be careful not to push the pin out to far, or
it may come out of the band anchor. You also have to remove the tail shaft housing of coarse.

I agree with Carlton about replacing the reverse band lever O-ring. I had my 63 Torqueflite rebuilt back in 1998. For the next 20 years I tried to figure out where it was leaking up to 1/2 quart over the winter storage. I replaced numerous oil pans
and gaskets and each time I would swear it was the pan leaking never being aware of a small O- ring . Even a complete wipe down of the trans housing never allowed me to see a trail from the rear of the shaft. My local Aluminum trans expert identified the
cause and came and showed me how it can be replaced with out removal.
So be sure and replace that O-ring no matter how good it may look.
Pictures are provided. O-ring #3 may be your problem.

For transmission parts, including O-rings, I've had good success with A&A Transmission in Canby, Indiana ( Home

Hi Carl,
I’ve been working quite a while to finish restoration of my H which included an engine and trans rebuild. After running and breaking in the engine I
found a trans leak at the back end of the trans. I learned there is a small O-ring seal back there that often gets over looked in the rebuilding. If that happens to be where your leak is occurring I believe that O-ring can be replaced without removing
the trans. I haven’t done that yet and I intend to have the mechanic who helps me a lot help me replace the seal.
Hope you get more input.
Best,

Subject: {Chrysler 300} Transmission seal in a 62
I have a 62 300 with a 413 but not the H. I do not know what transmission it has by model. It is leaking a lot of fluid when parked. I think the seal causing this can be replaced without
opening up the transmission? Does anyone have advice on where to acquire the proper seals and if I am correct in thinking I can pull the transmission, replace the seal and put it back in or if this is a more involved job.
