Depends also length of utility service drop wire from house to nearest transformerMy barn is about 100 feet away , and the lift would not start up with a heavy car on the ramp . Motor very unhappy and hum but no start , that may blow breaker . I think it takes 30-40 A + to start , ok on a circuit breaker 15 or 20 ,but only if it starts in seconds . 20 much better . Wire to barn was 120/240 50 A # 8If it does not start it can hurt motor and other problems if you keep trying ( start up cap gets beaten up )rewiring mine to 240 v was not possible it had 120 V only motor as shippedso this may help you . I put a 2.5 kva 120/240 by 120 240 transformer off ebay in a metal box on one corner where pump is . I had wired the shop 30A 240 for welder , i ran a 240 v 30 A cord ( 2 live wires and green safety ground ( no white) to transformer , connected as an auto transformer , white from outlets goes onto center tap , windings in parallel at 240 connection . do not connect center tap to ground . Auto transformer connection doubles physical kva . I put 4 outlets there ,on box so like a 40 amp plus availability right at lift .Used 30 amp fuse delay type on live 115 v sideLift ran great , instant start and the 4 outlets give me 120v very heavy duty, now fed by 240 v , right where workingpoint is lift motor hp in very high for only 120 v . They come with a set of casters. You raise the lift about a foot and place the casters in position , then lower the lift which causes it to remain above the ground on the casters. However, it is really a two man operation to move and place the lift in position. It is very heavy and while rolling easily, it can have a "mind of its own" when it is moved.Dyke Ridgley--On Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 5:44:39 PM UTC-6 scotttaylorsc wrote:For those of you with four post lifts that are not bolted down, how hard are they to move around? Can one person do it?We have a new three car garage at the house and I’m considering a couple of four post ones for storage… most likely with Chryslers on the ground and something lighter up top.I want something with an electric lift, would prefer no air but have air available if needed. Thinking about two, four post models but I’d like to not bolt them down if possible.ScottOn Mon, Nov 27, 2023 at 8:31 PM Tom Wilburn <tomwi...@xxxxxxxxx> wrote:I want to purchase a lift, and would appreciate advice.
While my preference would be an asymmetric chassis lift for maximum accessibility, I also want to use the lift for car storage.
So, I think that means a “drive on lift”, with accessories to allow wheel removal etc.
Any recommendations?
I have no restrictions as this will be new construction.
