Just to share a very minor "hack": I was doing the disconnects at the bulkhead connector and found I needed a fairly stout little device to collapse the "tongue" on the brass connector. I ground the "hips" from a nice little screwdriver blade so that it would fit better and do the job. I had purchased the special disconnect tool and found its blade to be too weak to collapse the brass "tongue" enough to enable it to be removed from the rubber ducky bulkhead connector. Be careful in the removal process not to damage the square block of rubber in the bulkhead connector that engages the brass connector. The picture of the headlight connector did show damage at the connector as evidenced by the melting where the one wire was attached. Probably due to a short elsewhere or a corroded brass-to-brass connection. Good idea to fixit. Rich Barber Brentwood, CA Best wishes. Peace be with you. -----Original Message----- From: chrysler-300-club-international@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx <chrysler-300-club-international@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> On Behalf Of finsruskw@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Sunday, October 8, 2023 5:43 AM To: 'Mark Lindahl' <mplindahl@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>; chrysler-300-club-international@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: {Chrysler 300} ‘63 Chrysler fuel/temp gauge Those look like Packard connectors. Slip a small narrow thin bladed screw driver into the small slot in the end while pushing gently on the other side of the connector on the wire. The screw driver will disengage the tang on the connector so you can pull it out with eth wire from the back side. Resistance within the wire due to corrosion and water as well as corrosion of and in the connectors causes heat and that's what melts the plastic housings and causes all the issues. It only gets worse from there. Electrical stuff needs to be kept dry and be bright and tight perion. -----Original Message----- From: chrysler-300-club-international@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx <chrysler-300-club-international@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> On Behalf Of Mark Lindahl Sent: Saturday, October 7, 2023 5:13 PM To: chrysler-300-club-international@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: {Chrysler 300} ‘63 Chrysler fuel/temp gauge Hello All, Thanks for all the good suggestions. The headlight connector is somewhat melted (see picture)and I didn’t notice this earlier so I thought the 12v may have lost connection due to this connector. The lights do work, but when I see melted plastic and then no power to the temp/gas gauge, I start to wonder. I had an intermittent gas gauge. My 2nd used replacement gas gauge pegged all the way to full and also the temp gauge pegged all the way to super hot when the engine was cold. The third used gas gauge powered up with 5v on a bench test, but when I pot it all together, all of a sudden no power. Both gauges are slumped all the way to the left. I have used light switches but if there is no direct link, then I won’t worry about the light switch. BTW, melted terminal is black wire in the corner of the connector. Maybe this is another problem (bulkhead?).. 300ly, Mark Lindahl -- For archives go to http://www.forwardlook.net/300-archive/search.htm#querylang --- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Chrysler 300 Club International" group.
