on battery switches , perhaps better to fix any drains , or possibly longer term remove clock fuse or put switch under dash for clock . Or to pull the cable is not that hard if many months . There should be no discharge of battery ,car resting but it is true that rodent damage on a live harness may cause a problem if it causes a short but that seems kind of remote , involving live wire , dumb rodent ( oxymoron) and ground that touches the skinned wire just right . rodent will feel 12v in mouth and go elsewhere . .I can’t stand mice , have destroyed wiring in several cars , including 10 k $ repair harness on V12 mercedes . After years of that the only thing that works is lots of old style traps and peanut butter refreshed every few months A fusible link ( sold for Fords) ) at main power takeoff at starter relay protects car even while driving if a short , works parked too . Where to spend the few $ , and have to look to find it Why not switch ? If , by some mentally not too swift event , someone opens switch or did not close it well, and battery is disconnected while running , volts can go way high and blow up your radio , bulbs , dash power supply , any aftermarket ignition , gauges etc . As far as which pole it does not matter electrically but poles are different diameter use the one that fits right . Not advocating any thing , do as you want . I don’t use them . Someone may misoperate it,= disaster . . Plus look is just distracting … YMMV john g
