Yes Nick, you are correct., my mistake. Both are code S and both are on my 1960 DuPont paint chip chart. I was in a bit of a hurry at the auction trying to examine three of these cars at the same time, and so I simply matched up my chart to the paint and Dusk Mauve appeared to be a nearly perfect match. Of course, it could have been the lighting. Dusk Mauve on my chart has a bit more red pigmentation in the purple than the Iris color.

The color was well chosen as it absolutely had a huge positive impact on the bidders and likely enhanced the value of the car. I sat next to a dealer/bidder – not a Chrysler guy – who thought the color was stunning.

Carl,

Iris is actually a 1960 Chrysler color. Code S, same code is used for Imperial Dusk Mauve but they are different colors. A friend built that NY convertible.

Another friend has a 1960 Chrysler NY wagon painted in Iris but I haven't been able to compare my paint chips to it to confirm if it is done right.

BTW, Michael Van Der Veen in Australia has a 300F that was special ordered in Imperial Dusk Mauve. He's in the midst of restoring the car.

I tried to get the VIN in advance but the car and title were still in transit. Not surprisingly, it turned out to be a color change from factory white, but still a fabulous restoration. I had to wait until 8am Saturday morning before they would let me examine the cars in detail (they were roped off), which as a registered bidder I had the right to do, and frankly was the only reason I registered to bid as my “Carla authorized” bid limit was probably insufficient given the quality of these restorations (indeed, it was insufficient). I’m fairly certain that I was the only bidder who actually examined the cars in detail!

The C sold for $143k all-in, not a bargain but not crazy. The ’57 NYer sold for $128k, strong money IMHO. It was an XWX paint code meaning that it was originally Indian Turquoise but had a white side spear, now solid Turquoise. Original interior was code 80, two-tone turquoise vinyl, redone in light green code 25 fabric/vinyl that would be correct for a 2 dr hardtop not a convertible. Nobody cared and outstanding nonetheless. The 60 New Yorker convertible was originally a black car BB1 code and billed as done “Iris.” No such 1960 color. My 1960 paint chips showed that it was done in 1960 Imperial Dusk Mauve – and absolutely gorgeous. Bid to $125k and no sale – but I could see they were working out a deal after the fact so likely sold.

The 59 Adventurer sold for $220k. It was outstanding as well. Not being a DeSoto expert, I did not check its VIN or data plate.
